A custom-built villa near Fuengirola

Alan Ayliffe's main reason for buying a villa in Spain was the desire to escape from England's grey skies. "Flights from the UK are cheap, and we're 15 minutes from Malaga airport," he says as he sits on the terrace with a glass of Rioja. "If I'd bought in, say, Florida, getting there would be a major operation, but I can be here in just a few hours. And I can still run my business from here!"

Alan is looking at the site where the construction of his new villa is being managed by the Superior Group.

He has chosen a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom bespoke villa between the coast of the Costa del Sol and the foothills near Fuengirola, designed to his own specification and built by local artisans.

"I first heard of the Superior Group when I stayed at one of their resorts in Florida," says Alan. "I was impressed by the quality of the properties there, and when I heard they also had properties in Spain, I called them. That's when they told me about their bespoke villas. That means I can design the whole house and rely on them to build it and finish it to a really high standard."

"I told the guys at Superior the kind of thing I had in mind, and they looked for a suitable plot for me. It took months, but they found this superb site. There will be 70 individual villas here, so it will be a really exclusive little community. And I only had to come out here once to look at it and meet with the designer! I'm a builder myself, so I've designed the layout of the villa. It's not the usual thing – we wanted to mix traditional Spanish style with 21st century design, so the whole top floor is one huge bedroom with en-suite bathroom, for example. All the interior design is done by the Superior Group's team here, so I know that when the whole thing is finished in 15 months time, everything will be absolutely perfect, even down to the furnishings."

The Superior Group's custom-build service means that clients can have as much or as little involvement with the design and build of their unique home as they want. In any case, the Superior team manages the whole project to ensure complete customer satisfaction and highest quality throughout.

"The Superior team bend over backwards to make sure everything is right," agrees Alan. "They handle everything, from solicitors and banks to tile-fitters and garden designers. The gardens here will be landscaped, with a pool, jacuzzi etc, but we can adapt the plans as we go along. It's the same inside the house: there is a huge choice of tiles, flooring etc, and it's all done by local builders who have done this kind of thing before. And I have access to my own private website so I can check on progress and costs."

"It's all been completely effortless so far," he muses, taking another sip of Rioja. "We can't wait to move in and really relax!"
